Our Team

Our team came together through a shared passion to make the outdoors more accessible for plus size people. With a range of skills from diversity to comms, pattern design to community organising, we decided to work together to best tackle the systemic issues around size inclusivity in the outdoors movement. Meet them below!

Steph Wetherell

Steph is a keen hiker with a love of long distance paths and solo walking adventures. As a day job she leads on comms and media for the Landworkers’ Alliance, works as a freelance writer (including Countryfile Magazine and the Independent) and has a real passion for representation! She has been leading on the social media strategy and coordination for the Every Body Outdoors instagram page which saw us hit 1000 followers in 48 hours and 2000 followers in the first month.

Emily Williams

Emily is a keen general outdoorsy person - at the moment mostly cycling and wild swimming, but also paddleboarding, canoeing, camping and exploring and anything else that looks like fun. As a day job she works as a self employed knitwear designer and technical editor (specialising in plus size grading of hand knit patterns) and also as the CEO of Velocity (a vegetarian cafe, bike workshop and project team), and a campaigner advocating for better active travel infrastructure in the highlands.

Kumbi Kariwo

Kumbi is a fun loving adventurous black woman, born and raised in Zimbabwe and now a Brummie! She is a Senior Nurse and has worked in the NHS for 20 years with a real interest in diversity and inclusion. Outside work she loves being outdoors trying out something new or trying to get better at something she loves doing (including climbing and outdoor swimming)! She’s a big believer that suitable outdoor clothing can be the one difference that is essential in having a safe, comfortable and enjoyable day.

Sara Huws

Sara is a writer, broadcaster and activist based in Cardiff. She has worked in the museum and heritage sector for over 15 years, and is co-founder of the first museum dedicated to women’s history in England and Wales - the East End Women’s Museum. She is currently studying for a PhD in ‘everyday activism’, and when she is not powerlifting, hiking, swimming or leading heritage walks, she can be found working in Cardiff University’s archives.

Rebecca Dawson

Rebecca is a keen walker, anything from short day hikes to long distance trails and ultramarathons. She is a passionate advocate of access to the outdoors, and is currently one year into a three-year term as Chair of the board of trustees at The Ramblers. For seven years until 2021 she ran her local 20s&30s Ramblers walking group, putting on group walks in her local area of Herts, Beds and Cambs. Her day job involves running her own marketing and communications agency, and she co-runs Vampire Outdoors, a small outdoor retail business.

We also feel it’s important to acknowledge that the work we’re doing is building on momentum from the USA, spearheaded by Jenny Bruso and the work of Unlikely Hikers, as well as being inspired by communities like Fat Girls Hiking and All Bodies On Bikes.
