KIT REVIEW : Adidas Terrex GORE-TEX Paclite Rain Jacket
Reviewed by Sarah
The Adidas Terrex jacket is a light and packable rain jacket, which packs down really well and is easy to carry.
FEATURES
It only comes in one colour, black, which is a bit disappointing for someone like myself who enjoys a bit of colour, and there is quite a lot of branding on the coat but it is reflective so not a bad safety element. It has roomy pockets, which are great for me as I am always carrying a lot of dog walking paraphernalia. However the pockets are made of a mesh material which does stay damp for quite a while if you accidentally leave them open in the rain. There are no chest or inner pockets which I would have expected from a hiking jacket. There is a toggle to tighten the hood around your head but not one around your face. As the hood is quite roomy, this allowed rain in to run down the inside of the jacket.
SIZE AND FIT
The size chart is not accurate. I had the size 4X to review, which the Adidas size chart says is a size 32-34 and should fit a 53-56.5 bust, 47-50.5 waist and 55.5 – 59 hip. My measurements are 51 bust, 54 waist and 59 hip. However the jacket was very roomy giving me a couple of extra inches throughout and plenty of room for lots of layers underneath. For me this makes it more suitable for my daily dog walks where I can wear it over all manner of outfits, rather than for hiking where it is quite voluminous over my performance layers. I am a tall person with a long body, and I loved that the coat was long enough to cover my bum and the arms were long enough to go all the way down past my wrists and keep my layers underneath dry. However I don’t think this will work well for anyone who has shorter arms.
PERFORMANCE
This is a 2.5 layer Goretex jacket and it is waterproof, lightweight and breathable. I put this jacket through its paces on one of the EBO walking weekends, climbing Mam Tor in a downpour, and I was impressed with how well it held up to the conditions. It kept me dry through a number of hours of persistent rain, it was windproof and I didn’t overheat even on an ascent.
