KIT REVIEW - Palm Women’s Tika PFD

Reviewed by Emily

FEATURES
This women’s specific PFD was developed by Palm Equipment, and features contoured PVC-free foam on the front. The wraparound fit is fastened with a zip at the centre front and a clip on the waist belt. There are two large pockets on the front of the jacket - easily big enough to comfortably fit a phone in as well as some easy access snacks.

SIZE AND FIT
This is hands down the best fitting PFD that I have every tried, and works significantly better for me than my previous mens fit one. The contoured padding on the front section is thinner over the bust, so the whole thing fits closer to my body. I have a 47” bust and am wearing the size XL/2XL, and there is plenty of scope to adjust the easy glide side straps (I estimate that this could easily accommodate a 53” bust with a bit of scope for adjustment). Along with being able to adjust the shoulder straps I was able to get a good fit really easily.

PERFORMANCE
I think one of the highest compliments I could pay this PFD is to say that I often don’t notice that I am wearing it. Because it fits around my bust in a far less obtrusive way, it makes self rescue less of a struggle. The generous pockets mean I have easy access to my phone (secured on a lanyard to the inside clip) and snacks/lipbalm while I am paddling. The front zip closure means it is really easy to get on and off if needed, with minimal faff. I have worn this on a variety of canoe trips - sailing, messing about and falling in as well as a bit of river running, and it works for all that. This PFD is really thoughtfully designed and I am delighted to see a women’s specific fit available in extended sizes.
