KIT REVIEW : Rab Kangri GTX jacket
Reviewed by Steph
This Gore-Tex jacket from Rab is now available in extended sizing from Cotswold Outdoor.
FEATURES
I’m not going to lie - I’ve been waiting for years for a high quality Gore-Tex jacket to be available in my size, and this has all the features I was after. It’s got them all - 3-layer Gore-Tex fabric, a two way zip, pit zips, a long cut, rucksack-friendly pockets and a large and fully adjustable hood. For me, the only thing missing is a chest pocket for a map, but other than that, it’s a well designed jacket that is perfect for hill and mountain use.
FIT AND SIZING
I have the size 20 jacket, which the size guide says will fit a 45 inch chest and 37.75 inch waist. I have a 46 inch chest, 41 inch waist and 51 inch hip and the size 20 is perfect on me. It’s spacious enough to fit an insulated jacket or thick fleece underneath, but also nicely proportioned throughout the whole jacket. It is a longer cut so people who are very short may struggle. The jacket goes up to a size 24 at Cotswold Outdoor.
PERFORMANCE
I have tested this jacket in some pretty torrential conditions and have stayed really dry. The hood is spacious and keeps the rain off my face - even off my glasses! I really appreciate the two way zip to help give more space when sitting down and going over obstacles, and the pit zips are well placed and easy to use for some bonus ventilation. It’s an investment but if you’re a keen hill or mountain walker, one worth making!
