Kit review: D2D SkinMesh+ Long Sleeve Baselayer

Reviewed by Steph

Keeping the right temperature is important when cycling but can be different to manage in changing weather and terrain. This base layer from D2D Cycling Clothing is a great option to have!

FEATURES:
This is a mesh base layer, with the mesh layer designed to trap air between your body and the jersey/layer you wear on top. It's very elasticated and works best when worn close to the skin as this is when the moisture wicks away from your skin most effectively. It's very lightweight and comfortable to wear. It is (obviously) see-through, but as it's designed to be worn under a jersey etc, that's fine!

SIZE AND FIT:
This is a one-size plus size garment, designed to fit from a 42 to 50 inch bust. Based on how it fits me (a 45 inch bust) and the amount of stretch in it I'd say that's fairly pretty accurate. It is a long fit on my body (which I like as I don't like short cycling tops that ride up), and the sleeves are long (I'm 5'10 tall) so anyone who is very short might have to roll them up!

PERFORMANCE:
This is a great baselayer that I've worn in a range of different scenarios - in cooler days, I wore it under a thick softshell jacket and it kept me really warm all day without overheating. As the temperature has warmed up, I've been cycling with it under a long sleeve jersey on a day where a thermal base layer would be too warm, but just the jersey would be too cold. It's surprisingly warm for a thin base layer, but also really has stopped me overheating on uphill sections.

For the price, this is an absolute bargain and a great option to have in your cycling wardrobe!
